5G Antenna Testing

5G Antenna Testing

Date: 25 July 2018

Vecta has commenced qualification of antennas for deployment in 5G networks. Greg Delforce, Vecta’s Director of Technology commented “Successful deployment and commercialisation of a 5G network is presenting operators with new technology challenges that were not present in previous network generations. Among these is the use of Massive MIMO through large-scale antenna arrays. These MIMO antennas utilise multiple radiating beams with narrow beamwidths and higher gain. As a result of these higher gain antennas, Electromagnetic Emissions (EME) is now becoming more of a concern for Operators and Regulatory agencies. To address these technology challenges, we have had to develop more sophisticated testing methodologies which can accurately capture true antenna performance and radiating properties.”
